WHAT ART SHOULD I BUY ? Thoughts on buying art.
As an abstract artist, I am attracted to abstract art, and so that is what initially I’ll write on. I am however not attracted to all abstracts, because I cannot connect with some. That does not mean it’s not a good piece as others may well love it, but if you don’t understand it, you may see no value. It may feel senseless, ridiculous or even overwhelming. But ….. it may also intrigue you, compel you to return to it again and again. When viewing abstract art, try looking in a different way, without preconception and with a fresh and open mind. Instead of looking for something you can recognise, think about how you feel when you look at the piece. Art is personal, buy what YOU love.

Will we get there before the clock strikes midnight ? Will we get there while it’s still just a fright ? Will we get there at all ? Before we fall. Will we get there before we need to call for our God ? …….. Or are we already there ?

HELPING YOU TO CHOOSE ART.
Consider these points. Colour. Bright colours and daring/bold brush strokes exude energy, while subtle or subdued colours will evoke calmness.
Genre Allow the character, the style of the area where the art is to be placed, direct your selection. Think about what you want the feeling to be in the space you wish to place the piece.
Placement. Are you going to put it in an area where you sit, or where you walk through, or stand? Does it need to be in the centre of the space you have? Could it be placed higher or lower on the wall?
Size matters. Large pieces can look amazing above a sofa or in an entrance or above a bed. Long pieces would suit the end of a hallway, or one of the many places where a narrow strip of wall occurs in a home. Smaller pieces can gain great affect, when grouped. They then create a gallery effect. Smaller pieces can be placed alone, where they can give surprise and delight in places where they are not expected. Think powder rooms, kitchens, hallways, perhaps on a stand in a quiet corner, or on a side table. There are many spaces where small artworks can perform. Experiment with height, smaller pieces can attract the eye and consciousness more if hung lower, inviting the viewer to look closer.
Lighting. Because smaller paintings do not have the effect of scale, lighting is important to attract attention from another part of the room. A mini picture light can work well to achieve this affect, should there not be enough natural light. How is the light in the place you wish to position the piece? How was the light where you saw the piece displayed?
Framing Framing styles can add elegance, modernity, functional minimalism and structure. Large unframed pieces give a modern feel.
Finally Choosing art should be a joy. Found that piece that’s beautiful/perfect/amazing ?BUY IT !!!! Too many times I hear of people wanting to “think about it” only to come back later and find it gone. Artists and galleries will often help with payment terms, and artists will often do commission work for you.
